As well as acting creatively I have managed staff, volunteers, projects and heritage sites.
Created the Skills, Schools and Stories
( http://www.heritageworks.co.uk/skills-schools-stories/ ) education and outreach strategy for Ancoats Buildings Preservation Trust. Based around restoration of 1789 grade 2 listed cotton mill. Worked with Manchester Education, local museums, volunteers and archives to set up an oral history project and schools programme. I also worked with on-site builder Wates to establish a construction skills training scheme.
Heritage Site Management
Operated as Heritage Manager at Sheffield General Cemetery Trust ( http://www.gencem.org/ ), a 15 acre heritage site with 9 listed buildings and monuments. I worked with volunteers and Trustees to manage the office and historic landscape. Liaison with outside bodies including English Heritage, local Conservation officers, Bereavement Services, councillors, planning department, Streetforce, probation services, police, dog wardens, homeless, mental health and drug awareness organisations.
Achieved £109,000 Heritage Lottery Fund grant for a Community Development Officer post to run the Skills, Schools and Stories project in Ancoats, north Manchester. I also raised £25,000 for paths restoration at Sheffield General Cemetery from local authority and private sources.
Scoped out, planned and delivered historical research into iconic Manchester jazz and rock venue Band on the Wall (http://bandonthewall.org/) I conducted oral history interviews, sourced photographs and archive material to create booklet, web site material and the photographic exhibition Shouting on Swan Street.
